What is DH?

Over the past few decades, Digital Humanities has become a flourishing field of research in the humanities. DH combines novel tools and methods drawn from computational and digital technologies, with traditional humanistic disciplines, thus broadening the scope of research in the field.

DH scholars employ a broad and varied set of technologies. These range from digitization and curation of digital archives, utilization of sophisticated machine learning and artificial intelligence models for advanced analysis, to complex visualizations and 3D modeling. Scholars apply these technological tools in the study of traditional source bases in the humanities (including manuscripts, archeological finds, visual sources, texts, music, and the human language itself). By producing and using new applications and techniques, DH provides scholars in the humanities with new teaching and research opportunities, while enabling scholars to study and critique how these new methods impact digital culture and cultural heritage.
