Wikipedia has emerged as a valuable digital resource for studying the contemporary history of science. Its comprehensive edit history, citation patterns, and collaborative content development provide researchers with unique insights into how scientific understanding evolves over time. The platform's open structure, combined with its ethical data practices and standardized article format, makes it an ideal tool for tracking and analyzing how scientific knowledge and consensus develop in real-time. In this project we aim to use Wikipedia's edit history to study the evolution of sleep research through both qualitative and quantitative analyses, while developing new computational tools and methodologies to enable broader cross-field comparisons of how scientific knowledge develops over time.
The project is led by Dr. Rona Aviram. In 2024 it was conducted within the framework of DH HUJI Center, with the assistance of Veronika Faynberg.
